Core outcome sets in clinical reserach

Speakers: Katrin Balzer, Dimitri Beeckman, Jan Kottner

Date: 21st September, 13:15 - 14:15

Description:

The quality and impact of clinical trials depend on a number of methodological criteria (e.g. randomization, concealed allocation etc.), but also on the choice of outcomes. Outcomes must be relevant to both patients and caregivers. Above all, outcomes must be comparable between trials to allow comparisons of treatment effects. This workshop introduces the concept of core outcomes and explains why core outcomes gain increasing attention in research. Two recent initiatives developing core outcome sets for pressure ulcer prevention and incontinence-associated dermatitis research will be discussed.
